After Travel, Try IV Drip Therapy For Recovery

Posted on

As enjoyable as travelling can be, sometimes you arrive home afterwards feeling incredibly drained and exhausted. This is usually due, in part, to a lack of sleep during your adventures away from home. However, it can also be tied to stress and dehydration. One way to help get your body back on the right track after demanding travel is to go for an IV drip therapy session.

What is IV drip therapy?

IV drip therapy is basically getting an IV — like you would if you were sick in the hospital. However, in this case, you are choosing to get the IV. The treatment is not usually given in a hospital, but rather in a clinic dedicated to this purpose. The clinic tends to be more like a medical spa. You'll lie back and relax for about a half hour while a specially formulated liquid is slowly dripped into your veins.

Why is IV drip therapy a good choice after travel?

As mentioned above, travel tends to leave you dehydrated. Most people do not drink enough when travelling because they don't want to have to use the restroom at an inconvenient time. Changes in pressure when flying in an airplane can also contribute to dehydration. IV drip therapy is excellent at correcting dehydration. It places the hydration straight in your veins, so you feel better almost instantly.

Travel can also deplete your body of certain nutrients due to the stress, and IV therapy is a quick way to replenish those nutrients without you having to start a specific diet or swallow pills.

What nutrients should you look for in an IV mixture?

When you step into the IV drip therapy clinic, you will soon realize that there are a lot of different formulations to choose from. After travel, you should look for a formula that contains a lot of vitamins C and E. These are antioxidants they help boost your immune system so you're less likely to get sick in the days that follow. (Travel can expose you to quite a few germs!)

Also look for a formula that contains potassium and magnesium. These electrolytes help ensure the hydration you get from the IV is long-lasting.

IV drip therapy can be a really helpful way to set yourself right after travelling. Call a clinic near you and make an appointment; some even take walk-ins and will be happy to get you in ASAP.
